Our Student Journalists

The Next Generation Radio project is a full-scale, digital-first multimedia training project with emphasis on “radio storytelling.” We are committed to the professional development of undergraduate and graduate students who are focused on journalism. The program is a series of week-long student training projects, designed to give students who are interested in radio and journalism the skills and opportunity to report and produce their own radio story. If you are interested in working with the program, inquire through @NextGenRadio. This #nextgenradio project is created in partnership with WHYY public media in Philadelphia.

He is a first-generation college student, currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Drexel University, with a major in Communication and a minor in Video Production. Allie Amato

Allie Amato

Aspiring Producer | Multimedia Journalist | Marketing Content Creator | Temple University

Allie Amato is 22, bi-racial, and a recent graduate of Temple University. She has a degree in Media Studies & Production, and a minor in Political Science. When she’s not watching “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”, cooking for her family, or being a bookworm, she’s creating. Allie wrote her first short story at age 7 (it was a spooky ghost story), and since then she has dabbled in everything media- and entertainment-related. Her inspiration to get her content out into the world is to inspire kids that are like her, and to be someone her little sister can be proud of.

Ayah Alkhars

Ayah Alkhars

Journalist | Web Developer at YallaPunk | Temple University

Ayah Alkhars’ interest in global journalism began during her undergraduate studies. After all, as an international student, she reads international news. Specifically, she reads news from the Middle East and North African region relating to gender and human rights issues, as well as social and political revolution. Her interest in studying Middle Eastern media lies mainly in how media develops under authoritarian regimes. During her time as an undergrad, she has done independent research on the issue of the perception of North Korea in the Middle East through the media.

Kaity Kline

Kaity Kline

Journalism and Radio/TV/Film Major at Rowan University

Every time Kaity Kline sees a dog, she screams “DOG”! Game of Thrones is her favorite show of all time, and she reads the news every day. People she considers her role models (besides Meghan Markle Duchess of Sussex) are Amal Clooney, Tina Fey, and Kamala Harris. Kaity admires people who are intelligent, stick to their guns, speak their minds, and use their positions of power to spread good. She tries to embody all of those things. Kaity wants to make a difference in the world by spreading meaningful stories, while also eating some chocolate chip cookies at the same time.

Christina Stella

Christina Stella

Radio Producer, Multimedia Artist & Filmmaker | Bryn Mawr

Christina Stella grew up Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a town in love with its own story, in a family with the same romanticism. She started writing stories in high school and quickly realized everybody has their own: she’s never been the same since. Christina graduated from Bryn Mawr College in May with an independent major in Film & Media Studies, where she focused her work on different documentary forms including film, audio, and photography. She made pieces there about queer body image, why we make home videos, and the complicated legacy of her college’s founder. Now she’s into the politics of figure skating.
